Notes for Western Civilization
The Trojan War
During the 1200s B.C., the Mycenaeans fought a 10-year war against Troy (a trading city) in Anatolia. They destroyed this place because a Trojan prince kidnapped the wife of the current Greek king, Helen. This was was thought to be completely fictional until archaeologists went to Turkey, in the 1800s, and found evidence of a possible war.
The Sea
The Greeks didn't really live on land, but around a sea. The Aegean, Ionian, and Black seas were important transportation routes. The Greeks natural resources were very little, so they had those imported as well.
The Land
The land in Greece is 3/4 rugged mountains and terrain and divided political life to a decent extent.
