April 30th

Today we went over some notes in class and got our tests back.

Here are some notes:


  • Diaspora - the dispersal of the Jews
  • Constantine - a Christian Roman emporer
  • Peter - the first Pope
  • Pope - the father & head of the church

  • Inflation - a drastic drop in the value of money coupled with a rise in prices.
  • Mercenaries - soldiers who fought for money.
  • Diocletian - a strong military leader who reformed the empire and became emperor.
  •  Constantinople - the new name of the city of Constantine.
  • Attila - a chieftain who had 100K soldiers and terrorized both halves of the Roman empire.

  • Greco-Roman Culture - mixing of Hellenistic, Greek, and Roman cultures.
  • Pompeii - a town that was covered in ash by a volcano.
  • Virgil - a poet that wrote famous Latin literature; Aeneid.
  • Tacitus - a Roman historian that presented facts accurately, concerned about Romans' lack of morality.
